The Bridge of Promises
Imagine Venice in 1630, devastated by a terrible plague, with thousands perishing. In desperation, the Doge vowed to build a magnificent church if the city was spared. The plague finally ended, and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute was born, becoming a symbol of faith, hope, and gratitude. Even today, every November 21, Venetians cross a special wooden bridge over the Grand Canal to light candles and pray, honoring this centuries-old promise.
